Our journey led us to a garage in San Diego, where we undertook the task of transforming its floor into a stunning space through the installation of paver tiles.
Initial Steps and Challenges: The garage's original state featured an epoxy-painted floor, which, despite its initial appeal, had the tendency to deteriorate over time and lose its bond with the concrete underneath. To create a durable foundation for the paver tiles, we began by grinding down the existing epoxy floor. The next step involved applying a self-leveling material to ensure an even and smooth surface, addressing any irregularities and providing a solid base for the new tiles.
The Primer and Profiling: Our expertise led us to use a primer specifically designed for concrete, resulting in a seamless and smooth surface that would enhance the longevity of the project. We meticulously profiled the surface to eliminate any micro bubbles, ensuring a flawlessly even foundation for the paver tiles.
Crafting the Transition Ramp: The addition of a metal trim at the front of the garage served as a transition ramp, offering protection to the edge of the paver tiles and facilitating smooth vehicle movement.
Tile Installation and Aesthetic Flourish: Following careful preparation, we embarked on the installation of the gray paver tiles, weaving them into an appealing pattern. Black edges and diving lines demarcate the two parking spaces, adding both functionality and visual interest.
Overcoming Challenges: One of the significant hurdles we encountered was dealing with high spots in the control joints—the lines between concrete slabs that permit expansion and contraction. This required diligent grinding to ensure an impeccably flat surface, allowing the paver tiles to sit perfectly.
